DO
I REALLY NEED EQUINE MORTALITY INSURANCE?
At E.P. Bishop Co., we
understand that to own & raise a horse, or to train, show, or
perhaps breed as well, can be a financial & emotional
commitment. Realistically, a fine horse should be protected for
both of these reasons because injury can occur easily.
Horses can contract any number of illnesses and life threatening
diseases. Caring for a horse under these circumstances can be
very, very costly.
Equine Mortality insurance from
E.P. Bishop Co. is designed specifically to protect your financial
investment, and at the same time, enables you to protect and care
for your horse.
FULL
MORTALITY COVERAGE
WHAT
IS FULL MORTALITY COVERAGE?
A Full Mortality policy
provides life insurance protection for your horse for a period of
(1) year.
WHAT
DOES IT COVER?
Full Mortality can cover
foals, stallions, mares and geldings of any breed. It insures your
horse against death due to an accident, injury, illness or
disease. It includes humane destruction to relieve incurable and
excessive suffering. It also includes theft and transportation
protection.
WHAT
IS THE COST FOR FULL MORTALITY COVERAGE?
The annual premium is
determined by a rate from E.P. Bishop Co. based upon value, breed,
age & use of the horse. (example:
$10,000 value x 3.5% rate= $350)

your horse, due to an injury or illness, could also create
unexpected medical bills causing a financial burden. Major Medical

a licensed veterinarian necessitated by an accident, injury,
illness or disease. This coverage also provides protection for
your horse should emergency surgery be needed.

insured animal for emergency vet care or emergency surgery. This
coverage is subject to a $250 medical deductible per claim.

injury, the full cost of surgery will be covered subject to a
$0-$50 deductible. The surgical policy will also pay a portion of
the cost of the surgeons miscellaneous fees. These charges are
normally for anesthesia, hospitalization, x-rays and lab tests.
The surgical insurance does not
cover castration, surgery for cosmetic reasons, caslicks or for a
pre-existing condition that your horse had prior to the effective
date of your policy.
HOW
MUCH COVERAGE DOES SURGICAL ONLY PROVIDE?
Surgical only provides necessary surgery for the horse limited
to a total of $5,000 including the operation fee and the surgeons
miscellaneous fees.
HOW
MUCH DOES SURGICAL ONLY COST?
Equine surgical insurance will cost $85 per year.
LOSS
OF USE
WHAT
IS LOSS OF USE COVERAGE?
Loss of Use is an optional disability coverage that is added
by endorsement to your Full Mortality policy and covers your horse
for (1) year. It is a condition which does not necessitate humane
destruction, but due to an accident, injury, illness or disease,
the horse is permanently disabled and cannot perform the functions
as stated in the policy.
HOW
MUCH COVERAGE DOES LOSS OF USE PROVIDE?
Loss of Use coverage provides a payment of 50-75% of the
horses declared value under the Full Mortality section of the
policy.
WHAT
IS THE COST TO ADD LOSS OF USE COVERAGE?
Annual premiums range between 2.5-3.75% of the declared value on
the Full Mortality portion of the policy and whether you wish to
purchase accident, sickness or illness coverage.

the policy.
WHAT
DOES LIMITED MORTALITY COST?
The rates vary from 0.5-1.5% of the value of your horse.
